We live longer, safer, and richer than any humans before us

change development philosophy

By almost every objective measure, we're living in the best time in human history.

Global poverty has dropped from 40% to under 10% in forty years. Child mortality is at historic lows. Violence between nations is rarer than ever. The average person today lives longer, has more access to education, medicine, and information than kings did a century ago. A middle-class European carries a device in their pocket more powerful than what NASA used to reach the moon.

Yet, we feel like everything is falling apart.

Why? Because we live online. And nothing keeps us scrolling like outrage, fear, and comparison. Content that makes us angry, anxious, or inadequate is everywhere.

So the algorithms learn. Show more conflict, more decline, more "look how shit the world is." Your country is failing. Every other country is better. Every institution is corrupt. Everyone else is doing better than you.

So...

the safest, healthiest, wealthiest generation in human history walks around convinced the world is shit.

Because: negative feeling = engagement = profit.

Best time to be alive. Worst time to feel alive.
